The EU’s competition commissioner, Joaquín Almunia, is campaigning for more efforts to promote online content in Europe.
He says Europe has failed to build a sustainable market for online content, while the content industry quickly jumped to its own defence.
Olav Stokkmo, the CEO of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations, said that the burgeoning market for mobile devices like the iPad and the Kindle, will soon act as a boost to the online content market.
Online news is already a popular part of the content market, but more may need to be done to bring the rest of the industry up to the same level.
