A quarter of small and medium sized enterprises (SME) are simply ignoring the benefits of search engine optimising (SEO) due to a basic lack of understanding, a recent survey has revealed.
SEO agency, dotSEO, polled marketers working in the SME sector and found that a quarter know little or nothing about SEO, only 14 per cent consider it to be an important part of their strategy, and 28 per cent are omitting important keywords from their websites.
The figures put them at a tremendous disadvantage, particularly as Google is now almost always the first place people turn when looking for goods and services.
dotSEO has assembled its findings in a report entitled Naked SEO, which they hope will demystify what the technique actually involves. The company's digital director, Skip Fidura, said people are not making use of simple changes that could dramatically affect their search engine rankings.
"Too often SEO techniques are shrouded in mystery as a dark art, not within the reach of ordinary marketers," he said. "Our report reveals how there are simple steps that any company can take to make tangible SEO improvements and drive real business returns."
Naked SEO also includes the results of a new benchmark study into how 50 of the UK’s leading SMEs – as ranked by The Sunday Times – are optimising their websites for natural search. Ã??Ã?¢Ã??â?¬Ã??Ã?¨
