The production of online video has become such a simple task that publishing websites and blogs have no excuse for not hosting a YouTube channel alongside their site, a leading internet broadcasting expert has said.
John Hillman, who edits PC Site and contributes to Net Media Planet, said the benefit of a channel is evident with web video figures rising and rising.
"People searching for videos on YouTube make up a staggering 25 per cent of all of Google’s search volumes," he said. "It stands to reason therefore that anyone serious about increasing their readership should be tapping this rich source of traffic."
He said the ease of internet web publishing has been aided by the focus more on content, rather that production values. This means that people do not need to invest in expensive AV equipment to record things: a basic Flip video camera and an open source video editing programme cost as little as £150 and are perfectly adequate.
Hillman added that the fairly insignificant amount of time needed to set up, record and post videos would repay dividends when up and running.
"The benefits that come from it are well worth the effort,'' he added. "One of our videos got nearly 30,000 views in a couple of months, all from just a cheap video camera, a free video editing platform and the benefits of YouTube’s vast army of viewers."
