Google has released a
video providing helpful SEO tips for start-ups. The video, which has been published on its Developer Blog, is set to be an instant hit with developers, start-ups and entrepreneurs looking to ensure their new sites are picked up by Google.
The video is presented by Maile Ohye, a member of Google’s Webmaster Central Team. She works as a Developer Advocate and focuses on helping firms build a strategic online presence.
One of the important tips she gives is to forget about the meta keywords tag, as Google doesn’t actually take any notice of this. Instead, start-ups are urged to concentrate on their titles and meta descriptions.
Ms Ohye explains how navigation is an important aspect to consider when designing a website and advises designers to ask whether a user that lands on a page that isn’t targeted at them can easily navigate to the area of the website that it.
In terms of content, Ms Ohye advises start-ups to limit pages to around 50 and ensure that content producers have a clear picture of the site’s overall purpose. For example, do you want users to sign up to your newsletter, buy products online or contact you for more information.
The video highlights the importance of including keywords naturally in your content and establishing these keywords based on what consumer actually search for. Finally, each page should have a single, logical topic to ensure the site flows well and is clear and concise.
