The website of free daily newspaper, Metro, will now host video news content, courtesy of a deal struck with ITN Productions.
Metro.co.uk readers will now be able to watch up-to-the-minute video content from the international news agency. The videos will cover all main areas of news including home and world news, sports, entertainment and business.
More than 1.3 million copies of the paper are distributed every day through 16 cities in the UK, and the website has a monthly readership of 2.5 million unique users that is growing every day.
ITN Productions managing director, Mark Browning, said their aims were well suited to Metro, and envisaged an excellent working relationship. He explained, "Our mix of news and entertainment is a fantastic match for Metro's content and we expect it will be very much enjoyed by their online users. We're delighted to be working with Metro, one of the best-known consumer newspaper brands in the UK."
Digital director of Metro, Jamie Walters, said the venture was sure to enhance their stature as a source of news.
"We are really excited to be able to offer our users of Metro.co.uk more choice in the way they consume their online news," he explained. "With ITN Productions supplying video content across a range of genres, I am sure this new addition to our site will really appeal to our City Clicker audience."
