Google Buzz gets praise for SEO potential

02/03/2010
The social networking platform, Google Buzz, has received praise from SEOptimise for its SEO (search engine optimisation) potential online.

Launched last month, Google Buzz is compatible with many social networking sites such as YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, Google Chat and Picasa. Rather than competing with these sites, it aims to integrate them into a seamless experience for users, for example by importing tweets into Google and sending them out to Buzz followers.

Not long after its launch, Google Buzz was quite heavily criticised on privacy issues, following which it did introduce some privacy controls.

The praise from SEOptimise will come as welcome news to Google's social media division. In terms of SEO, it has been described as a useful tool for keyword search, indexing and link building.

Buzz content does not yet appear in Google's real-time search results but this is expected to happen eventually.

Online companies should look at using Buzz for quick indexing of fresh content, particularly time-sensitive content such as online news. It is suggested that posting in Buzz will mean that content is indexed more quickly and this will mean more organic traffic from the search engine.

Google Buzz also has a third party application for keyword search called buzzzy.com, which is integrated onto the homepage.

In addition to these SEO advantages, Google Buzz has been praised for its ability to help online brands by optimizing content creation, brand building and multi-platform publishing.
