New figures from comScore indicate that online video is still rising in popularity with a 37 per cent increase in viewers over the past year.
Although 99.6 per cent of all videos viewed were hosted by YouTube, Facebook saw huge growth with a 205 per cent increase in the number of videos viewed on the social networking site.
Facebook has added facilities that allow users to post links to video news and other content that they wish to share with ‘friends.’
The BBC has been the third largest online video source in the past year, hosting 140 million viewed videos.
