eBay mastermind turns attention to online news

04/05/2010
Pierre Omidyar, the chairman and founder of eBay, is planning the launch of his next internet success in the form of an online news service.

He says he hopes to offer a service that shows that presenting news online connects with communities better than traditional news. Omidyar says this new type of journalism is simply the news industry reinventing itself rather than “being preoccupied with its own decline.”

The civilbeat.com site will be dedicated to local civil news in the US.

Our customers and their online visitors love the news articles from Newsvend - and so do the search engines.

We are now on the top page of results for all our main search terms. The website news feed appears instantly; we don't have to do anything!'
- Managing Director, corporate hospitality firm (London, UK)

I am very happy with the service... in the next few months I want to start using your [online news] service for another website. Partner, law firm (Florida, US)
